OVERVIEW
This module focuses on developing entrepreneurial thinking by teaching learners how to recognise opportunities, understand problems, and create practical solutions. At the age of 16–17, learners are capable of thinking beyond instructions and beginning to see how the real world operates. This module challenges them to move from passive observation to active problem-solving.
Learners are introduced to a fundamental principle: opportunities are not random, they are created by identifying and solving problems. Instead of waiting for opportunities to appear, learners are trained to recognise gaps, needs, and inefficiencies in their environment. This shift in thinking is essential for developing initiative and independence.
The module also introduces simple business thinking in a practical and accessible way. Learners explore how ideas can be turned into solutions, how value is delivered to others, and how businesses are built around meeting needs. The focus is not on complex theory, but on real-world application and understanding.
At the same time, this module continues to strengthen reading ability through structured, scenario-based content. Learners are required to analyse situations, interpret meaning, and think critically about what they read. The content encourages them to question, evaluate, and apply ideas, which strengthens both comprehension and decision-making ability.
By the end of this module, learners will not only be more aware of opportunities around them, but also more confident in their ability to think independently, solve problems, and begin developing their own ideas for value creation.

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
OPPORTUNITIES, PROBLEMS & ENTREPRENEURIAL THINKING: At 16–17 years old, learners are at a stage where they begin to think about their future in more practical terms. Many will start considering career paths, further studies, or ways to become financially independent. However, most are not taught how to recognise opportunities or how to think creatively about solving problems.
This module addresses that gap by introducing entrepreneurial thinking early. It helps learners understand that they are not limited to existing opportunities, but can create their own through initiative, creativity, and problem-solving. This mindset is powerful because it shifts learners from dependency to independence.
Without this way of thinking, learners may wait for opportunities, rely on external systems, and limit their potential. With it, they begin to take ownership of their future, identify possibilities, and act on them. This has a direct impact on confidence, motivation, and long-term success.
In addition, this module develops critical life skills such as initiative, adaptability, and resilience. Learners begin to understand that not every idea will work perfectly, but that improvement and persistence are part of the process. This prepares them for real-world challenges where flexibility and problem-solving are essential.
For parents and schools, this module provides a practical approach to developing future-ready learners. It ensures that learners are not only prepared for academic success, but also equipped with the mindset and skills needed to navigate a changing world where innovation and adaptability are key.
WHY READING IS IMPORTANT AT THIS AGE
Entrepreneurial thinking requires the ability to understand situations, analyse information, and interpret meaning. At this stage, reading becomes a critical tool for developing these abilities. It is no longer just about reading text, but about understanding ideas, evaluating scenarios, and making informed decisions.
Learners who read effectively are better able to:
• Identify problems and opportunities in different contexts
• Understand customer needs and behaviours
• Analyse situations and think critically about solutions
• Evaluate risks and make informed decisions
• Learn from examples, case studies, and real-world scenarios
Learners who struggle with reading often find it difficult to process these types of ideas. This can limit their ability to think creatively, solve problems, and take initiative.
The IgniteRead approach ensures that reading is directly connected to thinking and application. Each reading section presents real-world situations that require learners to engage actively with the content. They are encouraged to question what they read, consider different perspectives, and apply ideas to their own environment.
The content is designed to be more advanced, introducing deeper reasoning and more complex structures. This prepares learners for the type of thinking required in entrepreneurship, business, and real-world problem-solving.
For parents and schools, this creates a strong advantage. Learners are not only improving their reading ability, but also developing the capacity to think independently, recognise opportunities, and take action.
This module reinforces the core purpose of IgniteRead: to develop learners who can think clearly, act confidently, and create value in the real world.
